Pinnington was selected to become an Army Recruiter in his hometown of Auburn, Ind., in 2007. During his assignment as a recruiter, he was awarded the Glen E. Morrell Recruiting Excellence Award for distinguished achievement while serving as a recruiter. In 2011, he decided to change his military occupational specialty to Public Affairs. He graduated from the Defense Information School in 2011 with honors and was subsequently assigned to the 101st Airborne Division in Fort Campbell, Kentucky.
As the Public Affairs Non-commissioned Officer in Charge for the 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), he deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in 2012. While deployed, his team published more than 130 written products, 50 video broadcast packages, released more than 4,000 photographs and grew their social media strategic outreach to 28,000 people, returning to home station in 2013.
Currently, he is assigned to Headquarters, 1st Infantry Division, as the Public Affairs Planner. His duties include advising the commander and public affairs officer on all matters pertaining to public affairs, including command information, media relations, and community relations. He supervises Army public affairs programs, radio and television broadcasting, and advises on accuracy, propriety, timing and relative importance of information for release to the public. He develops, coordinates, supervises and participates in plans and policies pertaining to organizations, training and operations.
His military awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, the Army Commendation Medal (3rd Award), the Expert Infantryman's Badge, Airborne Qualification Badge, Recruiters Badge (Gold with 3 Sapphires), and the Presidential Service Badge.
Pinnington's military education includes The Defense Information School, the Army Recruiter course, and the Battle Staff course. He holds a BS in Biology from the University of Tennessee. He is pursuing a second Bachelor's Degree in Public Relations at the Syracuse University.
